總共分為14章，此教科書是為已完成中上級（日本檢定測驗二級或以上）或即將在日本大學攻讀人文學科的學生。因為只是為日本學生及國際學生而設的，所以也包括如何去了解異國文化的不同等。

每章包括兩個已不同手法的文章，聽力（如採訪、討論及新聞報導等），寫作及發表，文法及詞彙等練習。學生能在學習標準日語的同時也增加對日本社會方面的知識。
